Facilities

Knossington Village Hall is a lovely old building with lots of character.  We have been lucky enough to secure several grants from The Big Lottery Fund, Leicestershire County Council and Grass Roots, Voluntary Action Leicester and as a result we have some great equipment.  A set of different wooden room dividers allow us to create fantastic role play situations and give us some flexibility for quiet and activity corners.  We have a computer that the children can use to develop their IT skills as well as some fabulous educational toys and equipment.

Outside

The outside area linked to the Village Hall is fitted with a rubber floor and has a large black board and paint board which is used for big art attack projects.  We also use the space for playing with sand, water, ice and anything that is too messy to have indoors!  Ride on vehicles and our little rowing boat are really popular and we often plan outdoor activities like planting seeds or potting up flowers.  The children have access to the outside area at all times and can choose to do most things outside if they wish.

Park & Allotment Garden

We have access to a lovely big park which is 2 minutes walk from the Village Hall.  This is equipped with swings, a climbing frame and a zip wire and is loved by all the children.  We use this space for lots of activities from den building to kite flying, football to Olympic games.  Our allotment garden is also located within the park area and this is a fenced area with raised beds, a garden shed, water butt, mini fruit trees and picnic tables.  Here the children can dig, plant, grow and harvest vegetables, compost waste, feed birds and enjoy an outdoor snack or lunch.

We believe it is important to get out as much as possible and we have recently secured funding to pilot an ‘out and about’ scheme.  The children get to go out in a minibus to various nearby places including farms, woodland, and even Rutland Water.

We have a special link with Learning Farm in Owston and visit there a few times each year.  These out and about visits help to develop the children’s independence and knowledge of their environment.
